This series will cover general information on different Therapy Dog organizations, their expectations and guidelines and the benefits associated with Animal Assisted Activities. The Handler’s Role and the Dog’s Role will be discussed, in addition to role play – helpers using medical equipment, skills needed for therapy dog visits – and possible field experiences. Students will be provided articles and links relevant for that week’s class. Evaluation practices common to many organizations will be emphasized, so at completion, you will better understand if you and your canine companion are ready for Therapy Dog work.
Requirements: Dogs must be one year old, comfortable with other dogs and people and have completed Basic Obedience or an equivalent. Canine Good Citizenship (CGC) is a plus but not required.
A minimum of 7 dogs is required for this series.
