First, Cover the Basics

No matter what you want to accomplish, you have to pass Obedience 1, and we recommend continuing at least to Obedience 2.
- Get your Canine Good Citizen certification. USDT offers regular evaluation workshops. Check our Events page.
- Exploring other sports, such as Agility, Rally, and Obedience--competing in trials will improve your handling and increase your dog's confidence in various public settings.
Next, Enjoy the Work and Play
- Take Therapy Dog and/or Novice/Intermediate Tricks, and earn Trick Dog Titles at one of our CGC/Trick Dog Evaluation Events. Check our Events page.
- Get certified with Alliance of Therapy Dogs or another widely recognized therapy dog certification program that offers insurance.
- Become a Member of USDTC
- Develop public performance skills for your dog and yourself by volunteering with Joyful Paws Trick and Therapy Dogs.

- Take Advanced/Expert Tricks
- Pursue our R.E.A.D. program
- Perform with Joyful Paws
- Become an AKC Canine Ambassador
- Join our AKC Canine Ambassador Committee or any other committee and help USDTC develop more ways to serve our community!
