The USDTC Public Outreach Program (POP):
- Fulfills the aims of the AKC
Canine Ambassador Program, which are "to educate the public about purebred dogs, safety around dogs, AKC dog sports and events, and responsible dog ownership";
- Directs dog training classes that prepare effective dog-and-handler teams to educate, entertain, and engage with the public, such as Therapy Dog, Tricks, Freestyle, Fit Dog,
and Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.);
- Participates in community events, such as festivals, fundraisers, and parades;
- Visits schools, youth groups, libraries, hospitals, and nursing homes;
- Works closely with USDTC's Public Education Coordinator;
- Plans and hosts public education events at USDTC that emphasize the value of the human-canine bond.
